Sports Betting: Tie-In To The Lottery For Boosting States' Educational Coffers

Number of pages: 6

ABSTRACT:
6 pages in length. Gambling has long subsidized revenues from states where it is either legal or conducted via the black market. While sports betting has remained largely off the legal scope in most states across the country, it stands to reflect one of the most potentially lucrative options for funding collegiate scholarships when associated with a given state's lottery system. Oregon, one state in which this coupling rendered 2.5 million dollars for athletic scholarships for in-state students, has set the precedent for mixing gambling with academia and coming up with a winning hand. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
